Bloomsburg Falls to Niagara and Colgate in Women's Tennis
HAMILTON, NY—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team dropped two matches to Niagara and Colgate, moving the team to 3-2 on the season.
In Friday's 7-0 loss to Colgate, the Huskies lost two close doubles matches at the number one and number three position. At number one, Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland) and Emily Murphy (Collegeville/Methacton) dropped an 8-6 battle, while at third doubles, Kim Harvey and Torie Cunningham fell by the same score.
In singles action, the Huskies took Colgate to three sets at two of the three the bottom positions. At four singles, Lindsey Wyckoff (North Caton, OH/Hoover) fell 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9), while at fifth singles, Cunningham lost 6-4, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (10-7). At sixth singles, Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil's Academy) dropped two close sets, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
On Saturday, the Huskies fell to Niagara University, 6-1 in a similar match to Friday. In doubles, Murphy and Harvey fell 8-6 at the number one position, and at second singles, Tracy Nissenbaum (Allentown/Sagemont, FL) and Colfer fell by the same score.
Colfer got the Huskies lone win of the weekend at six singles. After losing the first set 6-4, Colfer rallied for a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
The Huskies forced Niagara into three sets in three out of the last five singles matches. At third singles, after winning the first set, 6-2, Wyckoff dropped the last two sets, 7-6 (6), 6-0. At fourth singles, Cunningham won the first set 6-4 before falling 7-6 (4) in the second and losing a third-set replacing super tiebreaker, 10-0. At fifth singles, Nissenbaum fell two tight sets, 6-4 (7-6 (2).
The Huskies will back back in action March 5 when they travel to Hawaii on their spring break trip.
