Huskies Defeat IUP in Women's Tennis

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University women's improved their record to 3-0 on the season with a 7-2 win over Indiana (PA).

The Huskies swept the doubles to jump out to a 3-0 team lead in the match. At first doubles, Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland) and Pratt (New Hope/New Hope-Solebury) got a solid, 8-1 win, while at third doubles, Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) and Emily Murphy (Montgomery/Methacton) won by the same score. Kim Harvey (Jamesport, NY/Riverhead) and Tracy Nissenbaum (Allentown/Sagemont, FL) won in a tight match, 8-6, at second doubles.

In singles, Bloomsburg got two straight-set victories at third and fifth singles. Murphy, at third, won 6-2, 6-1, while at five, Torie Cunningham (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) turned in a 6-1, 6-2 win. At third singles, Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover) won 6-0, 6-2 after falling in the first set, 4-6. Nissenbaum also won in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 10-7.

The Huskies got their second PSAC match of the season with the win over IUP. Bloomsburg will travel to Shippensburg next weekend to compete in the ITA East Regional tournament.
