Women's Tennis Tops Millersville
MILLERSVILLE—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team defeated Millersville on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 6-3. With the win, the Huskies improve to 8-5 on the season.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the team of Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) and Tracy Nissenbaum (Allentown/Sagemont, FL) were 8-5 winners playing at number two. The duo of Emily Murphy (Montgomery/Methacton) and Kim Harvey (Jamesport, NY/Riverhead) also were 8-5 winners at number three doubles.
In singles action, the Huskies won four of six matches to pick up the win. Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland) was a 7-5, 6-0 winner at number one singles while Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover) was a winner in three sets at number four singles, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Torie Cunningham (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) picked up a much needed 6-2, 6-1 win at number five singles while Colfer was Bloomsburg lone double-winner, topping Millersville Annie Baurmaster at number six singles, 6-0, 6-3.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Sunday as they host New Jersey Institute of Technology at 3:00 p.m.
