Huskies Named All-PSAC in Tennis

Coyne Named Coach of the Year


BLOOMSBURG--Six members of the Bloomsburg University men's and women's tennis team have been named All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for the 2006 season.

Earning individual All-PSAC Eastern Division honors for the women were Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover), Emily Murphy (Worcester/Methacton) and Tori Cunningham (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields), while Dan Gal (South Park/South Park) earned individual All-PSAC honors for the men. In women's doubles, the team of Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) and Tracy Nissenbaum (Allentown/William Allen) also earned All-PSAC Eastern Division honors. In addition, coach Marty Coyne was named PSAC East Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.

Wyckoff, who recently graduated, was an integral part of the Huskies winning three straight PSAC Team Championships, including being named MVP of the tournament in 2004. This season she dominated singles play with a 17-7record, winning 14 consecutive matches over Division II opponents. In addition to her singles dominance, Wyckoff has been part of three successful doubles teams with a combined record of 17-5. For her efforts this spring, she was named the Huskies team MVP as well as PSAC Tennis Player of the Week for two out of the four weeks that the award was handed out. Wyckoff was previously named second team All-PSAC in 2004.

Murphy, who completed her junior season, posted a record of 15-7 for the season, including a combined record of 6-0 at number three and four singles. Murphy was named the MVP of the 2006 PSAC Women's Tennis championships after posted an exciting three-set win in the semi-finals which propelled the Huskies to the victory. In doubles play this season, Murphy, who was named first team All-PSAC in both 2004 and 2005, combined to post a record of 12-7.

Cunningham, a sophomore, was 18-5 for the season, including an eight-match win streak to end the season. One of her biggest wins of the season came against Kutztown on April 12th when he won 6-1, 6-2, in the Huskies 5-4 win over the Golden Bears. Cunningham, who was also named PSAC East Player of the Week in early April, posted a record of 15-11 in doubles play. She also earned All-PSAC Eastern Division honors in 2005.

Gal, a sophomore, was named MVP of the Bloomsburg University men's team for the 2006 season. Gal posted a mark of 11-12 for the season, playing exclusively at number one singles. In doubles play, Gal was 8-12 playing at number one. Gal was the 2005 PSAC Rookie of the Year and was also named second team All-PSAC.

Colfer, a senior, and Nissenbaum, a sophomore, posted a mark of 17-3 for the season, including a record of 10-2 in dual matches. Two of the team's biggest wins came in the post-season when Colfer and Nissenbaum won two matches at the PSAC team championships and two matches at the NCAA regionals.

PSAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year


Coyne, who was named PSAC East Coach of the Year for the third straight year, led the 2006 Huskies to a 17-4 record and a trip to the NCAA Final Sixteen. On May 5, the Huskies won the NCAA East Regional, defeating Queens College (NY) to advance to the final sixteen. In addition, Bloomsburg finished undefeated in conference play and won their third consecutive PSAC Championship under his direction.

During his 12-year career as head coach of the women's team, Coyne has led the team to 11 consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Championships and seven PSAC crowns. Coyne was also named ITA East Region coach of the year in 2004 and was PSAC Coach of the Year in 1995, 1996, 2004, and 2005.
