Women's Tennis Opens Season with Win

WILLIAMSPORT--The Bloomsburg University women's tennis opened the 2006 portion of its season with a 9-0 shutout over Philadelphia University.

At first doubles, Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland) and Torie Cunningham (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) got an 8-5 win, while at second doubles, Emily Murphy (Montgomery/Methacton) and Anna Melnikova (Moscow, Russia) won 8-0. The third doubles team of Tracy Nissenbaum (Allentown/Sagemont, FL) and Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win.

In singles, Hokkanen won 6-3, 6-1 at first, while at second singles, Cunningham got a 6-1, 6-1 win. At third and fourth singles, Melnikova and Wyckoff each won 6-1, 6-1.

Rounding out the singles, Murphy recorded a 6-0, 6-1 at the five position, while Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) got a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth.

The Huskies will be idle until they travel to Hilton Head for their annual spring break trip.
