Women's Tennis Team Wins PSAC Championship
SHIPPENSBURG--Led by tournament Most Valuable Player Emily Murphy (Worcester/Methacton), the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team won its third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship with a 5-1 win over California (PA) University on Sunday.
The PSAC title was also the 10th for the women's team in school history.
The Huskies jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles with Murphy and Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover) winning at number two, 9-8, 7-4 in the tie-breaker, while Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) and Tracy Nissenbaum (Allentown/William Allen) won at number three, 8-4.
In singles play, the Huskies dominated the action with Torrie Cunningham (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) winning 6-0, 6-0 at number three; Wyckoff winning 6-1, 6-0 at four and Nissenbaum winning 6-3, 6-2 at six.
Bloomsburg has previously won PSAC titles in 1977, 1978, 1985, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2005.
With the victory, Bloomsburg improves to 15-3 on the season.
