Bloomsburg Finishes Third at PSAC Wrestling Championships

FINAL RESULTS

MILLERSVILLE —The Bloomsburg University wrestling team finished third at the PSAC wrestling championships at Millersville University Saturday with George Carter and Hunter Guenot winning individual titles. The Huskies finished with 98.50 points to edge fourth place finisher, Clarion, with 97.50 points. Edinboro won the team title with 134.50 points, while Lock Haven was second with 127.50.

Carter won the 157-pound weight class with an 11-3 decision over Jeremy Reitz of Clarion. Carter advanced to the finals with a win by fall over Craig Pequignot of Millersville in 4:03. The PSAC title is the second for Carter in his career with the other one coming in 2000 at 149 pounds.

Guenot won the 174-pound weight class with a 5-3 win over Edinboro's Nate Yetzer. Guenot reached the finals with a 4-2 win over Chris Haines of Lock Haven. Guenot's PSAC title is the second of his career with the other coming in 2000 at 165 pounds.

One other member of the Huskies lost in the finals and finished second. At 149 pounds, Brad Forbes lost to Brad Cieleski of Slippery Rock, 6-1. Forbes reached the finals with a 6-3 win over James Lavelle of Lock Haven.

Finishing fourth at the PSAC championships were Justin Haupt and Tony Milone, while Ryan Garner and Andy Ludlow were fifth and Chad Hoare sixth. Bloomsburg's 125-pounder Brock Hite defaulted for medical reasons in his first match yesterday as well as on Saturday and was eliminated.

Clarion heavyweight John Testa was voted the "Outstanding Wrestler" of this year's tournament. Testa defeated Lock Haven's Steve Itterly 8-4 in the finals to win his fourth PSAC title. He is only the 12th wrestler in PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) history to win four individual titles and the first to win four titles at heavyweight.

The third place finish for the Huskies bests the team's fifth place a year ago when it totaled 66 points.

The Huskies visit Ohio University next Saturday for a tri-meet with Millersville and Slippery Rock.
