Bloomsburg Wrestling Downs Pitt PanthersPITTSBURGH---The Bloomsburg University wrestling team picked up wins in six straight matches to down the University of Pittsburgh, 20-13, in an Eastern Wrestling League match-up Tuesday night. The win was the first in EWL competition for new Bloomsburg coach Dan Wirnsberger. Bloomsburg fell behind 3-0 when the Panthers' Justin Giovinco earned a 5-3 win over Jacob Warner at 149 pounds. Then at 157 pounds, the Huskies' George Carter used five takedowns to post a 13-4 major decision giving Bloomsburg a 4-3 lead in the match. At 165 pounds, Ryan Garner went up 5-1 on the strength of two takedowns (one in each of the first two periods) then got a reversal and a point for riding time to earn an 8-4 win putting Bloomsburg in front 7-3. The Huskies then got a 13-2 major decision from Hunter Guenot to go out in front 11-3. Then at 184 pounds, Bloomsburg's Chad Hoare scored early to grab a 3-0 lead after one period in his bout. He later added another takedown to get an 8-2 win and put the Huskies in command at 14-3. Bloomsburg added to its lead when 197-pounder Andy Ludlow scored an 8-5 win. Ludlow used a late escape and one for riding time for the victory. At heavyweight, Tony Milone cruised to a 12-5 win over Travis Shirley to give Bloomsburg a commanding 20-3 edge with just three bouts left. The Panther's Jordan Sianni stopped the Huskies run with a 14-0 win over Michael Collins at 125, while Mike May from Pitt downed Mark Piermattei 10-3 to trim the Huskies lead to 20-10. The final match of the night went to Pitt as Ronald Tarquino beat Brad Forbes, 9-3, to make the final, 20-13. The win improves Bloomsburg's record to 4-1 on the year, 1-0 in the EWL. The Panthers fall to 1-1, 0-1 in the EWL.
