Edinboro Defeats Bloomsburg in Eastern Wrestling League Matchup

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team fell to Edinboro University, 27-10, Thursday evening at Nelson Field House. The win put the Fighting Scots at 9-4, 3-1 in the Eastern Wrestling League. With the loss, the Huskies dropped to 7-6, 2-4 in the Eastern Wrestling League.

At 125, Edinboro's Jacob Gray won a 5-0 decision over Michael Collins. He went ahead 2-0 on a takedown in the first period. A reversal in the second period put him ahead 4-0. One point for riding time made the final bout score 5-0.

In the 133-pound match, going into the third period trailing 3-2 Bloomsburg's Justin Haupt tied the score with an escape early in the period. Shawn Bunch scored on a takedown and another Haupt escape made the score 5-4. Haupt got a point for stalling, but Bunch got the 6-5 victory with a point for riding time.

At 141, the Huskies' Mark Piermattei took an early 2-0 lead on a takedown. Cory Ace, however, would control the rest of the match, eventually pinning Piermattei 4:02 into the bout to put the Fighting Scots ahead 12-0.

Brad Forbes would put the Huskies on the board with a 4-3 decision in the 149-pound match over Ron Doppelhauer. Forbes scored on a takedown just ten seconds into the first period. Forbes got another point early in the second period on an escape before Doppelhauer made the score 3-2 on a takedown. Forbes took a 4-2 lead at the end of the period on another escape. Doppelhauer made the final score 4-3 with an escape in the third period.

At 157, George Carter came out strong against Eric Ring scoring first with a takedown 20 seconds into the bout. After controlling the entire match, Carter came away with an 18-5 major decision making the match score 12-7.

In the next match, Edinboro's Matt King won a major decision over Ryan Garner at 165-pounds. Two takedowns in the first period put King ahead 4-1. King had two more takedowns and a near fall in the second period to seal the 13-3 victory putting the Fighting Scots ahead 16-7.

At 174, Hunter Guenot got on the board with a takedown one minute into the first period. An escape by the Fighting Scots' Nate Yetzer made the score 2-1 at the end of the second period. An escape by Guenot sealed the 3-2 decision. The win put the match score at 16-10.

At 184 pounds, Alex Clemsen's major decision over Chad Hoare put the Fighting Scots ahead 20-10. Hoare scored on a takedown early in the first period, but Clemsen controlled the rest of the match. A takedown at the end of the third period sealed the major decision.

David Shunamon sealed the win for Edinboro with a major decision over Andy Ludlow in the 197-pound match. A takedown late in the third period and one point for riding time ensured the major decision.

The final bout of the evening, Joe Hennis of Edinboro won a 7-4 decision over Tony Milone. Hennis scored first on an escape in the second period, followed by a takedown to put him ahead 3-0.

Bloomsburg will host Lock Haven on February 14th at 7:30 p.m.
