Bloomsburg, Lock Haven Look to Heat up EWL Rivalry
BLOOMSBURG— There won't be much love in the air this Friday when the Bloomsburg University wrestling team hosts Lock Haven University in what has become a heated Eastern Wrestling League rivalry.
The Huskies, who haven't defeated the Bald Eagles since 1990, come into the match looking to snap their three match-losing streak after falling to Ohio University, Cleveland State and most recently Edinboro University dropping their record to 7-6 on the season, 2-4 in the EWL.
Bloomsburg is lead by 157-pounder George Carter who has wrestled his way to a 26-4 record this season and is ranked 13th in the most recent Intermat rankings. Carter is coming off an 18-5 victory against Edinboro University, a dual the Huskies lost, 27-10. Carter has won 10 consecutive matches since losing 7-6 to West Virginia on January 11. Hunter Guenot, at 174 pounds, has also posted an impressive record of 28-3 after a 3-1 win over Edinboro. Guenot is ranked 19th in the Intermat rankings and just like Carter has won 10 straight matches.
Also playing key roles in the Huskies success this season have been 184-pounder Chad Hoare who has wrestled to an 18-11 record and 149-pounder Brad Forbes who stands at 14-13.
Lock Haven, who won the meeting between the two teams last season, 39-3, comes into Friday's match looking for a much needed victory after dropping their last four duals, including a 22-18 loss to the University of Pittsburgh dropping their overall record to 10-10, 1-4 in the EWL.
Leading the way for the Bald Eagles has been 141-pounder Mike Maney who stands at 23-2 on the year and is currently ranked 7th in the Intermat rankings. Maney has registered six pins on the year with the fastest coming in a time of 1:32. Also posting solid marks for the season has been 133-pounder Justin Owens who has wrestled his way to a 17-10 record with five pins.
Other wrestlers with winning marks this season are 174-pounder Eric O'Conner, 12-6, 184-pounder Morgan Horner, 14-8 and Steve Itterly who stands at 15-13 with four pins at the heavyweight position.
These two teams will hit the mats Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Nelson Field House.
