Bloomsburg Falls to Buffalo in Wrestling
BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University wrestling team fell to the University of Buffalo 21-13, at the Bloomsburg Duals. The teams traded the lead seven times in the meet, with Buffalo winning three of the last four matches. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 1-2 on the season.
Mark McNight picked up the first win of the meet for Buffalo with a 5-1 decision over Brian Sellers at 125. McNight scored three points in the second period with an escape and a takedown and added a takedown late in the third for the win.
Bryan Hart put Bloomsburg ahead with an 11-2 major decision over Brian Sebaaly at 133. Hart reversed a Sebaaly hold as time expired to get the bonus point for the Huskies. Hart led by an 8-0 margin before Sebaaly scored two points on a reversal in the second period.
At 141, Mike Trotta of Buffalo won a thrilling 3-2 decision over Scott Heckman. Trotta led 3-1 before Heckman escaped with :15 seconds remaining in the third period. Trotta then defended Heckman's takedown attempt with :05 left and won the match.
Tyler Williams put the Huskies on top, 7-6, with a 3-2 decision over Patrick Llyod at 149. Williams scored a first period takedown, then allowed Llyod to escape to make the score 2-1 going into the second. Williams escaped in the second to build his lead to 3-1. Llyod added a third period escape to narrow the score to 3-2 but could not overtake Williams.
The teams traded the lead again at 157 when Dave Edwards of Buffalo defeated Chris Tate 5-2. Tate escaped late in the third to make the score 3-2. He then let Edwards escape with :04 left and tried to take him down but was unsuccessful. Edwards added a point for riding time and won the match, helping Buffalo regain a 9-7 lead in the meet.
At 165, B.J. Mikeska won in dramatic fashion. Mikeska reversed Nick Rausenberger as time expired in the second period to tie the score at 4-4. Mikeska then scored a point in the third period as Rausenberger was called for stalling twice in the period. Mikeska was awarded the point and the win, 5-4. This gave Bloomsburg a 10-9 advantage in the match.
At 174, Ed Pawlak of Buffalo went after Ryan Garner and managed the only pin of the match at 1:39. Buffalo regained the lead, 15-10.
Garrett Hicks of Buffalo pushed the Bull's advantage to 18-10 with an 11-5 victory over Nate Shirk at 184.
Shirk led 3-2 after the first period but Hicks used a five-point move, a reversal with three back points, to take a 7-2 advantage. He increased his lead with an escape and a takedown in the third period.
In the most exciting match of the afternoon, Kyle Cerminara of Buffalo won by a riding time advantage over Chad Hoare. The match ended 3-3. After regulation, the scored was tied 1-1. Hoare took a 2-1 advantage in the first overtime, but Cerminara responded with an escape of his own the following overtime period. Cerminara escaped in the third overtime to take a 3-2 advantage. In the next period, Hoare escaped but could not score any points as Cerminara picked up the victory, sealing the victory for the Bulls.
Ryan Chulada of Blomsburg took an early advantage and led the entire match as he defeated Greg Thomas, 4-2 at Heavyweight. The win was Chulada's second of the day.
