Bloomsburg Wins First Match of Season over Findlay
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team took a 25-9 win over Findlay at the Bloomsburg Duals. The Huskies took the meet lead after the 149 pound match and did not trail the rest of the way.
Andy Uhl helped Findlay to an early advantage with an 8-4 decision over Brian Sellers at 125. Sellers led 4-1 after the first period. Uhl escaped to start the second period and added a takedown to tie the score at 4-4. Uhl scored three back points in the third, and added a point for riding time to win, 8-4.
At 133, Bryan Hart put the Huskies on top 4-3, with a 10-2 major decision over Jack Scott of Findlay. Hart led 6-2 after two periods and added four points, three back points, and one point for riding in the third period to win by major decision.
Joey Simcoe helped the Oilers regain the lead with a 4-2 decision over Scott Heckman at 141. After a Heckman takedown, Simcoe escaped and added a takedown of his own to take a 3-2 lead. No one scored the rest of the way, but Simcoe was awarded a point for riding time to take a 4-2 decision.
In an overtime thriller at 149, Tyler Williams of Bloomsburg took down Angelo Vettese with :20 left to pick up the 3-1 win. Bloomsburg regained the match lead 7-6.
Bloomsburg increased their advantage to 13-6 when Chris Tate pinned Justin Busnick in the third period. Tate was leading 4-1 in the third when he pinned Busnick at 5:51.
At 165, the match was tied 4-4 before B.J. Mikeska of Bloomsburg took a 6-4 lead over Joe Patterson with two near fall points in the second. He increased his advantage to 9-5 with a takedown and eventually won the match, 10-6.
Jeff Ostholthoff of Findlay took an 8-3 overtime decision over Ryan Garner at 174. Ostholthoff took Garner down in overtime and added three back points to pick up the win for the Oilers.
At 184, Nate Shirk of Bloomsburg took the early lead and never trailed as he won an exciting 8-7 decision over Kris Klepacz. Klepacz came as close as 8-6 and added a riding point but could not overcome Shirk.
Chad Hoare sealed up the victory for the Huskies with a 8-4 decision over Clint Salisbury at 197. Hoare scored first with a takedown and was up 4-2 after two periods. Bloomsburg led 22-9.
In the final match of the meet, Ryan Chulada of Bloomsburg defeated Brett Boggs with a 6-2 decision. Chulada picked up two, first period takedowns sandwiched in between a Boggs escape, and a reversal in the third. Boggs also scored a point for riding time.
