Bloomsburg Opens Season at Oklahoma Gold Classic

BROCKPORT, NY —The Bloomsburg University wrestling team opened its 2003-04 season at the Oklahoma Gold Classic held at the SUNY Brockport in New York.

Freshman Scott Heckman took second at 141 pounds for the Huskies to lead the way. Heckman opened with a pin of Brian Hennesey of Rutgers, then won a major decision over Mike Trotta of the University of Buffalo before losing in the final, 14-6 to Anthony Coleman of Cleveland State.

At 149 pounds, Tyler Williams, another freshman, finished fourth. Williams opened with a 6-2 win over Jody Ashline of Buffalo, then picked up a 3-1, overtime victory against Paul Standbury of Army. In the semi-finals, Williams lost to Matt DePolo of Cleveland State, 3-2, in overtime. In a consolation match, Williams won 9-3 before losing 3-1 to Jeff Ecklof of Oklahoma in the third place match.

At 197 pounds, Chad Hoare finished fourth. Hoare won his first match, 7-5, in overtime, then lost in the semi-finals to Kyle Cerminara of Buffalo, 6-3. In the consolation semi-finals, Hoare won 6-2 over Joe Forsman of Army before losing in the third place match to Joe Phillips of Cleveland State, 4-3.

As a team the Huskies totaled 81 points. Oklahoma won the event with 178.5 points.
