Cornell Cruises Past Huskies in Wrestling Action

BLOOMSBURG- The 16th ranked Cornell Big Red won every weight class to defeat the Bloomsburg Huskies, 35-0, Thursday night.

The match started at 133 pounds with Cornell's Travis Lee using a series of takedowns to gain a 7-2 decision for the Big Red. Justin Haupt managed to escape twice, however, Lee came out on the winning end with four takedowns for the match.

At 141 pounds, Scott Heckman of Bloomsburg led the match until midway through the second period when Cornell's Keith Dickey came up with a crucial takedown that led to a two-point near fall. Dickey went on to win the bout 6-4.

In the 149-pound bout, Cornell's Dustin Manotti held off the Huskies Brad Forbes in a tightly fought match. Manotti took control of the match early getting a takedown and a near fall earning him two points. Manotti won 5-1.

At 157, Cornell's Scott Roth earned a technical fall over Bloomsburg's Josh Leow in the closing seconds of the third period. Roth came out aggressive in the first period taking an 11-3 lead following a series of takedowns. Roth sealed the match by getting a key takedown in the third period before getting a three-point near fall and winning 20-5.

In the 165 match, the Big Red's Dave Post took an early 5-2 lead in the first period. Bloomsburg's Ryan Garner quickly got back into the bout getting a takedown early in the second. Up 5-4 heading into the third, Post got an escape early in the period before Garner came up with a takedown to level the match with 25 second's to go sending the match to overtime. In overtime, Post got a takedown just 15 second's into the period to claim the 8-6 victory.

At 174, Cornell's Tyler Baier took an early lead over the Huskies Justin Johnson on a takedown and held his 2-0 lead throughout the scoreless second. In the third, Baier got a reversal sealing the match as he would win 4-0.

At 184, Jerry Rinaldi won a tightly fought match, 3-0, over the Huskies Ryan Chulada. Rinaldi earned a takedown early in the first period and picked up an insurance point in the second off a reversal.

At 197, Matt Greenburg of Cornell defeated Bloomsburg's Chad Hoare, 9-4. After a scoreless first period, Greenburg earned a three-point near fall to take a 3-0 lead before Hoare made his way back into the match with an escape closing the score to 3-2 heading into the third period. In the third, Greenburg came out aggressive earning a pair of takedowns.

At heavyweight, the Big Red's Matt Bogumil snuck out a 3-1 decision over Bloomsburg's Aaron Ferrance. Bogumil went down 1-0 early, however, a second period takedown proved to be the deciding factor.

In the 125 match, Cornell's Mike Mormile pinned Bloomsburg's Brian Sellers at 2:57.
