Bloomsburg Tops East Stroudsburg in Wrestling

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team defeated East Stroudsburg on Saturday, 21-12 at the Nelson Field House. The Huskies won the final three matches to pick up the victory. With the win, Bloomsburg improves to 8-7 while East Stroudsburg falls to 9-8 on the season.

In the opening bout of the night at 157 pounds, Bloomsburg's Josh Loew held off East Stroudsburg's Keith

Kleckner 3-2. Loew dodged a Kleckner shot attempt then countered with his own takedown with less than a minute left in the match to pick up the victory.

At 165, the Huskies' Ryan Garner started the scoring with a reversal then allowed East Stroudsburg's Keith Smith to escape to lead 2-1. Smith escaped for the second time in the match to tie the score at 2-2. The match went in to double overtime where Smith turned Garner for two near fall points to win, 4-2. Following the match the Huskies were deducted one team point.

In the 174 match, the Huskies' Jim Bertulis controlled the Warriors' John Carr through two periods leading 5-2. In the third, Carr escaped but Bertulis got a quick takedown to win the match 7-3.

In the 184 match, East Stroudsburg got a win from Brandon Mihalko over Bloomsburg's Nate Shirk. Shirk led 3-2 after one period but Mihalko scored a takedown and three backpoints at the end of the second period to lead 8-4. Mihalko scored another takedown to win the match, 10-5.

At 197, Bloomsburg's Ryan Chulada got a takedown and three backpoints while riding the Warriors' Charles Deighton for the entire second period. Chulada held on for the victory, 7-2.

In the heavyweight bout, Stanley Foster of East Stroudsburg defeated Bloomsburg's Chad Hoare 4-0. Foster chose defense to start the second period and escaped to lead 1-0. He then scored a takedown late in the second to lead 3-0. In the third period, Foster rode out Hoare for the entire period to pick up the 4-0 decision.

At 125, the Warriors' Mark Koszyk scored an escape and a takedown in the second period to take the lead and the match from Bloomsburg's Bryan Sellers, 3-2. East Stroudsburg lead the match 12-8.

In the 133 bout, Bryan Hart jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a takedown in the first period. Hart added to his lead with two backpoints and a 4-0 lead after two. He then scored on an escape and a takedown to extend his lead to 7-0. Hart won by a major decision after receiving a bonus point for riding time.

In the 141-pound match, Bloomsburg's Scott Heckman lead East Stroudsburg's Tyler Rapp 14-2 before earning a fall at 3:49.

Bloomsburg's Brad Forbes scored a takedown to take an early lead, 2-0 after the first period. Forbes chose defense in the second period and escaped to lead 3-0. He then earned another takedown to take control of the match before allowing East Stroudsburg Nick Rock to escape to bring the score to 5-1. Forbes earned a takedown to start the third and was awarded a point for stalling as well as a point for riding time to pick up the win, 9-2.

Bloomsburg will be on the road tomorrow versus EWL foe Lock Haven. The bout is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
