2005 Buckeye Dual Results

COLUMBUS, OH- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team competed at the Ohio State Duals on Saturday, finishing the day with a record of 2-2 with wins over Ohio University and Kent State. Bryce Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) and Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) finished the day 4-0, while Chad Hoare (DuBois/DuBois) and Jim Bertulis (Aston/Garnett Valley) both went 3-1.
Round one-Bloomsburg vs. Kent State
In the first round of action, the Huskies downed Kent State, 21-18. Bertulis, Bryce Hasseman, Chad Hoare DuBois/DuBois), Sees and Joe Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) all picked up wins for Bloomsburg.
125 and 133- The Huskies' Mike Sees and Joe Hasseman won by forfeit with Hasseman's win giving Bloomsburg the victory.
141- Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Strath Haven) took an early lead in the first period with a takedown, but Jason McGee fought back with an escape and takedown en route to a 5-3 win. Forbes earned an escape, back points in the third period sealed the win for McGee.
149-Kent State's Jason Bake recorded two takedowns and three escapes in his 10-6 win over the Huskies' Ben Young (Downingtown/Downingtown). Young got a takedown in the first period, but Bake outscored Young, 5-2 in the last two periods.
157- Kurt Gross scored five points in the final two periods to get a 6-1 win over the Huskies' Chris Tate (Boothwyn/Garnett Valley). Tate was outscored 5-0 in the final two periods.
165- Bertulis put the Huskies on the board with a 3-2 win over Nick Brenner. Bertulis scored on a takedown in the first period and then added an escape in the second after choosing the defensive position. Brenner's two points came off stalling calls against Bertulis.
174- Bryce Hasseman defeated Kent State's Aaron Miller, 8-3, recording three takedowns in the match. After taking a 4-2 lead going into the third period, Hasseman chose the defensive position, scoring his fifth point off an escape. He recorded his third takedown and earning one point of riding time to earn the win.
184- Kent State's Alex Camargo had three takedowns and one escape, recording an 8-3 win over the Huskies' Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin). In the third period, Camargo had a takedown, an escape and also earned a point for riding time.
197- Hoare gave the Huskies' a lift with a 5-3 win over Kent State's Ben Rings. After a scoreless first period, Hoare scored on a takedown, a reversal and a penalty against Rings to take a
HWT- After scoring on a takedown, Thomas Rodriguez got a pin over the Huskies' Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/ Boyertown) 1:58 into the match.
Round 2: BLOOMSBURG vs. OHIO STATE
In the second match of the day, the Huskies fell in a tight match, 18-17 to the Ohio State Buckeyes. The match came down to the last bout at 133, where T.J. Enright of Ohio State beat the Huskies' Joe Hasseman, 7-2.
141- Ohio State's Jason Johnstone recorded three takedowns and a reversal in a 8-1 win over Bloomsburg's Forbes. After two scoreless periods, Forbes earned an escape in the third period, but Johnstone came back with a takedown to end the match.
149-Mark Piermattei (Middleburg/Middleburg) fell in a close 7-5 match to the Buckeyes' Steve Wolrey. Worley got a quick takedown in the first period, before a reversal and two back points from Piermattei. Following the first period, Piermattei led, 4-3, Wolrey earning a point off a Piermattei penalty. After a scoreless second period, Wolrey scored a reversal in the third period, taking a 5-4 lead. Piermattei tied the match on an escape, but Wolrey got a takedown in the final minute to take the match for the Buckeyes.
157- Despite two points late in the third period, Tate fell to the Buckeyes' Keegan Mueller, 4-2. Mueller scored a takedown in the first period. He scored two more points in the second period, leading 4-0 going into the third. After Mueller chose the defensive position heading into the third, Tate scored his two points on back points.
165- After scoring 8 points in the final period, Bertulis got a 20-5 technical fall win over the Buckeyes' Brian Baldridge. Bertulis took it to Baldridge early, leading 7-1 after the first period. After choosing the defensive position in the second period, Bertulis scored off an escape. Baldridge got a takedown, but Bertulis scored on an escape and a takedown before the end of the second. In the third period, Baldridge chose the defensive position and scored on a reversal. Bertulis scored an escape and got a quick takedown. Bertulis then scored five back points and earned one point for riding time to finish the match.
174- Bryce Hasseman recorded four takedowns and two reversals in a 14-10 win over Ohio State's Nathaniel Auguston. The first period ended in a tie, and Auguston chose the defensive position in the second, getting a reversal. Hasseman came back with his own reversal, before a buckeye escape. Before the end of the period, Hasseman got another takedown, leading 9-8 going into the third. In the final period, Hasseman started in the defensive position, earning a quick escape. He got a quick takedown followed by an Auguston escape. To earn his final points, Hasseman got a takedown nearing the end of the third period.
184- Jesse Hasseman pinned Alex Picazo at the 3:39 mark to pull the Huskies ahead of the Buckeyes, 14-9. Picazo got a takedown in the first period, followed by a Hasseman escape, Picazo taking a 2-1 lead into the second period. After choosing the defensive position, Hasseman got a quick escape and a takedown, putting Picazo in a headlock to get the pin for Bloomsburg.
197- Ohio State's JD Bergman took an early 2-1 lead en route to a 4-2 win over the Huskies' Hoare. Bergman scored an escape in the second heading into the third period with a 3-1 lead. Hoare chose the defensive position in the third and got a quick escape. Unable to score again in the period, Bergman got his fourth point from riding time to take the match for the Buckeyes.
HWT-Kirk Nail got an early takedown in the first period en route to a 7-3 win over the Huskies' Spaid. After an escape in the second period, Nail led 3-1 going into the third. Spaid took the defensive position, earning an escape before another Nail takedown. Spaid scored on another escape, but Nail scored on another takedown to win the match for the Buckeyes.
125- Sees scored seven points in the first period en route to a 15-9 win over the Buckeyes' Nathan Costello. In the second period, Sees outscored Costello 6-1 in the second period after starting in the defensive position. In the third period, Sees got his fourth takedown of the match, getting the win for the Huskies. With the win, Bloomsburg took the lead, 17-15 going into the final bout.
133- T.J. Enright got a 7-2 win over the Huskies' Joe Hasseman to win the match for the Buckeyes. After a scoreless first period, Enright scored on an escape and two takedowns to take a 5-1 lead going into the final period. Hasseman got an escape in the third period, but Enright got another takedown to seal the win for the Buckeyes.
Round 3: BLOOMSBURG vs. OHIO UNIVERSITY
The Huskies defeated the Ohio University Bobcats, 23-12, in their third match of the day. The Huskies won seven of 10 bouts, including major decisions from Young and Bertulis at 157 and 165, respectively.
141- Mark Piermattei got an 11-4 win over the Bobcats' Jon Spires. Piermattei had a 2-0 lead going into the second period, where he recorded two escapes and another takedown. In the third period he outscored Spires, 5-0.
149- Ben Young got a 16-3 major decision for the Huskies, defeating the Bobcats' Mike Allen, 16-3. Young scored on three takedowns in the first period, and added a reversal and three back points in the second period. In the final period, Young outscored Allen, 4-1.
157- Jake Percival got a 16-1 technical fall win over Chris Tate at the 157 bout. Percival scored eight points in the first period en route to the win.
165- Jim Bertulis scored eight points in the first period en route to a 12-0 major decision shut out against Ohio University's Aaron Gomall. After a takedown and six back points in the first period, Bertulis added three back points in the second before an escape in the third period. Bertulis earned one point for riding time. The win put the Huskies on top, 12-5.
174- After trailing 6-2 going into the third period, Bryce Hasseman outscored the Bobcats' Ed Willis, 6-1 in the final period to win the bout, 8-7 for the Huskies. Hassman got an early escape to start the period. After receiving a penalty point, Hasseman scored two takedowns to Willis' one escape to win the match for Bloomsburg.
184- Ohio University's Brian Cesear defeated the Huskies' Jesse Hasseman, 6-3. Tied at 2-2 going into the third period, Cesear got an escape after starting in the defensive position, taking a 3-2 lead. Despite an escape after a late Cesear takedown, Hasseman couldn't put any more points on the board. Cesear got his sixth point from riding time.
197- Chad Hoare got a 3-0 win over the Bobcats' Nick Terbay. Hoare scored on a takedown in the first period, and an escape after starting the second period from the defensive position. Hoare was awarded one point for riding time.
HWT- The Bobcats' Marcus Adelman took an early lead on a takedown and never trailed as he defeated the Huskies' Mike Spaid, 11-3. In the second period, Adelman started in the defensive position and got a reversal. Spaid was able to score on an escape, but Adelman recorded another takedown, leading 6-1 going into the third. Spaid, starting out defensively, got an escape, but Adelman recorded two more takedowns before the end of the match. Adelman was also rewarded a point for riding time.
125- After leading 2-1 after the first period, Sees scored two more takedowns en route to an 8-3 win over the Bobcats' Caleb Metcalf. In the second period, Metcalf got an escape after starting out in the defensive position. Sees scored another takedown, while Metcalf, again, got the escape. In the third period, Sees escaped from the defensive position early in the period, before scoring another takedown. Sees was also earned a point on riding time.
133-Joe Hasseman recorded four takedowns in a 9-4 win over Ohio University's Chirs Lape. After the first period, Hasseman led 6-3. Following a scorless second period, Hasseman recorded an escape and a takedown to seal the win for the Huskies.
Round 4: BLOOMSBURG vs. NORTHERN ILLINOIS
The Huskies fell to Northern Illinois University, 21-12 in their final match at the Buckeye Duals. Sees, Bryce Hasseman, and Hoare all picked up wins for the Huskies.
141- Northern Illinois' Josh Wooten jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two periods en route to a 7-2 win over the Huskies' Piermattei. In the third period, Piermattei scored on two escapes, but Wooten came back with a takedown and also earned one point for riding time.
149- Mike Grimes of Northern Illinois defeated the Huskies' Ben Young, 6-4. After trading escapes and takedowns in the first period, Grimes scored three points in the second period off an escape and a takedown. Young took the defensive position in the third period and scored on an escape, but was unable to score again.
157- Scott Rendos jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period en route to a 8-0 win over Bloomsburg's Chris Tate. Rendos also scored on a reversal in the second period prior to a scoreless third period. Rendos also received one point for riding time.
165- Northern Illinois' John Galloway defeated the Huskies' Jim Bertulis in a tight, 3-1 match. Galloway scored on a takedown in the first before Bertulis got an escape after choosing the defensive position in the second period. In the third period, Galloway chose the defensive position and scored his final point on an escape.
174- Bryce Hasseman put the Huskies on the board with an 9-3 decision over Danny Burke. After a scoreless first period, Hasseman scored on an escape from the defensive position. He got a quick takedown, and Burke recorded an escape. After selecting the defensive position in the third period, Burke got a quick escape followed by a Hasseman takedown. Hasseman added three back points before Burke scored his final point on an escape. Hasseman was awarded one point for riding time.
184-Northern Illinois' Garret Hicks took a 2-1 lead in the first period and never trailed in his 7-2 win over Jesse Hasseman. Hicks scored on an escape from the defensive position, the only point scored in the second period. In the third, Hasseman chose the defensive position, from which Hicks earned three back points. Hicks was also awarded one point for riding time.
197- Chad Hoare got a tight 11-9 win for the Huskies over Northern Illinois' Harold Sharrell. After two periods, Hoare led 4-2. In the third, he got two more back points which were followed by an escape and a takedown from Sharrell. Hoare scored three consecutive points in the same way, with Sharrell following with an escape. After another Sharrell takedown to tie the match, Hoare got an escape with less than 10 seconds left to seal the win for Bloomsburg. Hoare also picked up a point for riding time.
HWT- Northern Illinois' Joe Sapp scored three takedowns and a reversal in an 8-5 win over the Huskies' Mike Spaid. Spaid recorded five escapes, but was unable to record an offensive point. Sapp also picked up a point for riding time.
125- The Huskies' Sees scored on two takedowns before pinning Chad Vandiver 1:02 into the match.
133- Northern Illinois' Pat Castillo recorded five takedowns and an escape in a 12-3 win over the Huskies' Joe Hasseman. Castillo got five of his 11 points in the second period with two takedowns and an escape. Castillo also earned a point for riding time.
