Bloomsburg Falls to Cornell in Wrestling
ITHACA, NY— The Bloomsburg University wrestling team lost to Cornell University, 28-9, on Saturday in collegiate wrestling action.
The Huskies got off to a good start when 141-pounder Brad Forbes earned a 6-0 decision over the Big Red's Jordan Leen. Cornell grabbed the lead for good at 149 pounds whben Mark Piermattei lost by technical fall, 16-1, to Dustin Manotti.
At 157, the Huskies' Chris Tate lost by a 6-2 score to give the home team an 8-3 lead. At 165 pounds, Bloomsburg's Jim Bertulis downed Joey Hooker, 5-4, to close the team score gap to 8-6.
Cornell's won the four bouts to push the two-point lead to a 17-point margin. Byrce Hasseman lost at 174 for Bloomsburg, 5-2, while his brother, Jesse, was pinned by Tyler Baier in 1:17. At 197 pounds, Jerry Rinaldi stopped Chad Hoare, 2-1, before Tyler Shovlin defeated Mike Spaid, 4-2.
Bloomsburg's Mike Sees got the Huskies final win of the night at 125 pounds when he defeated Mike Rodriguez, 12-7. At 133, Cornell's Travis Lee became the Big Red's all-time win leader at 135 when he stopped Tony Curto on a technical fall, 17-2.
Bloomsburg, 9-6, will end the regular season on Tuesday at East Stroudsburg.
