Bloomsburg Downs East Stroudsburg in Wrestling

EAST STROUDSBURG —The Bloomsburg University wrestling team wrapped up its regular season with a 20-15 win over East Stroudsburg Tuesday night. The win was the 10th of the year for Bloomsburg and marks the first time since the 1992-93 season the team has won as many as 10 or more matches in a season.

The Huskies started the evening off with a major decision from Mike Sees (Northumberland/Northumberland) at 125 pounds who won 19-7 over Roberto Ramos. After Bloomsburg forfeited at 133, Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) defeated Scott Heckman, 7-6, in overtime.

At 149, the Warriors' Mark Smith won a 3-1 decision over George Hickman (Wilmington, NC/Riverside) to give East Stroudsburg a 9-7 lead. The Warriors extended their lead to 12-7 when Keith Kleckner beat Chris Tate (Boothwyn/Garnett Valley), 4-3, at 157 pounds.

Bloomsburg began its comeback at 165 pounds when Jim Bertulis (Aston/Garnett Valley) beat Keith Smith, 2-1; then Bryce Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) earned a major decision over John Carr, 11-3, at 174 pounds for a 14-12 Bloomsburg lead.

The Warriors went ahead 15-14 when Sean McCracken a decision over Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin), 6-2. The Huskies then went ahead for good when Chad Hoare (Reynoldsville/DuBois) won 4-2 over Phil Hard at 197 pounds. Then with the match on the line, Bloomsburg's Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) won a 4-1 decision over Stanley Foster to give the Huskies the win.

Bloomsburg is now 10-6 for the year. The last time the Huskies won at least 10 matches in a season was the 1992-93 season when the team posted a 10-5 record in former coach Roger Sanders' final year of coaching.

The Huskies are idle till the Eastern Wrestling League championships March 5-6 at Clarion University.
