CONSOLATION ROUND TWO

125-Mike Sees vs. Jeremy Mendoza (Arizona State)

First Period: Sees is working a russian tie. Mendoza gets in on a slick little single leg attack, but the ref calls the situation potentially dangerous because of the way Sees' knee becomes twisted. Mendoza gets in on another single, but fails to finish before time expires. 0-0. Second Period: Mendoza starts on bottom. He is able to get a reversal to a cradle after Sees goes for a tilt. Mendoza turns Sees and pins him with the cradle with 1:08 seconds remaining in the bout. TOF: 3:52

133-Tony Curto vs. Ryan McClester (The Citadel)

McClester comes out strong and converts a high crotch into a takedown to go up 2-0. McClester comes close to turning Curto but scores no points and finishes the period on top. McClester chooses down to start the 2nd. Curto almost scores nearfall from a tilt but McClester scrambles out to earn a reversal. Curto quickly earns an escape to cut McClester's lead to 4-1. Curto fights off a single leg attempt by McClester right at the end of the 2nd period. Curto chooses bottom for the final period. Curto escapes but not before McClester earns just under 2 minutes in riding time. McClester counters a Curto shot and locks up a cradle. He rolls Curto to his back for 3 nearfall. Curto breaks the lock and gets to his feet. He goes big but is countered by McClester and gives up another takedown. McClester converts it to a turk and earns another 3 back and finishes with a major decision.

165-Jim Bertulis vs. Patrick Pitsch (Arizona State)

Pitsch gets a takedown with a spin behind at the end of the buzzer to take a 3-2 lead into the 2nd period. Pitsch dominates 2nd period and leads 6-2 going into the 3rd period.

Pitsch wins 7-2 with riding time.

197-Chad Hoare vs. Joel Flaggert (Oklahoma)

1st Period: Flaggert scores the first takedown 19 seconds into the match. Hoare out after 40 seconds. Flaggert gets another takedown making his lead 3 over Hoare. 2nd Period: Flaggert gets a quick reversal and then cuts Hoare making it 6-2. Flaggert catches Hoare flat footed and dumps him for 2 more. Flaggert rides him out. 3rd Period: wrestlers begin neutral. Hoare tries a headlock to get back in the match, but Flaggert slips out that making it 10-2. Flaggert bars the arm trying to crank Hoare over. Escape Hoare. Flaggert gets a last second takedown.

Flaggert wins 13-3 (Hoare Eliminated).

Curto scores off a single. Borrelli takes injury time for his bad knee that was hurt at the national duals. Borrelli limping. Borrelli escapes. Curto taking half shots. Curto in on a shot Borrelli scretches him and able to spin around. After a Curto escape Borrelli scores a takedown. Borrelli locking up a cradle. Takes him over for three. Curto then revierses. Borrelli out for one right away to start the third. Converts a single to a double on the edge. Borrelli trying to lock up the cradle again but Curto able to esape. Borrelli scores off a poor Curto shot. Curto given a penalty point for illegal lock across the throt. Borrelli adds riding time.

Hoare gets in on a single but, can't score. first Period ends with no score. Michalak starts the second period down and gets a reversal. Hoare gets a leg but, can't control the scramble and a stalemate is called.Michalak gets a cradle locked up and scores near fall as the period ends. Kennett gets in on a single leg but, can't score as they go out of bounds. Kennett chooses down. Kennett escapes with 1:30 remaining. Spaid chooses down to start the third period. Kennett uses injury tme to tape a sore wrist. Spaid scores a take down with :50 left in the third period then turns Kennett and pins him.
