Huskies Fall to Pittsburgh in WrestlingPITTSBURGH— The Bloomsburg University wrestling team fell to 0-1 in the Eastern Wrestling League after losing to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, 24-16 at The Fitzgerald Field House. The Huskies lost the first five matches before winning four of the last five. After Pittsburgh's Dave Morgan jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second period of the 125-pound bout, Brian Sellers evened the match at 1-1 early in the third. Morgan then added two, third period takedowns to win the match, 5-2. At 133 pounds, Bloomsburg's Tony Curto was pinned by Drew Headlee in 2:28. Headlee used a takedown and controlled Curto the entire first period before earning the pin. Mark Piermattei wrestled hard for the Huskies but fell to two-time NCAA qualifier Ron Tarquinio, 18-2 at 141 pounds. At 149 pounds, Bloomsburg's Josh Loew lost a 9-1 decision to Matt Kocher. Chris Tate forced Keith Gavin into overtime at 157 pounds but was reversed in the second overtime period. The match was tied 1-1 going into overtime before Gavin scored the reversal. Bloomsburg got on the board at 165 pounds as Jim Bertulis was a 9-4 winner over Justin Nestor. Bertulis used a takedown and three near-fall points to pick up the win. At 174 pounds, Bryce Hasseman dominated Zach Doll, winning 15-3. Hasseman accumulated eight near-fall points in the match. Nate Shirk picked up the win for Bloomsburg at 184 pounds as he won the 9-4 decision over Eric Cassidy. Chad Hoare scored the only pin for the Huskies at 197 pounds as he topped Matt Heist, 1:51 into the first period. At heavyweight, Mike Spaid fell 6-2 to Zachary Sheaffer. Spaid led 2-1 but allowed an escape and was taken down by Sheaffer. Sheaffer added another takedown and a riding point for the 6-2 win. Bloomsburg returns to action on Thursday as they travel to Buffalo to take on the Bulls at 7:00 p.m.
