Huskies Top Slippery Rock in Wrestling

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team defeated Slippery Rock 34-9 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday. The Huskies won eight of 10 bouts in the match, moving their record to 4-5 on the season. The Huskies started the match with a pin from Mike Spaid (Boyertown/Boyertown) at heavyweight, while Tony Curto (Easton/Wilson) and Bryce Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) picked up technical fall wins for Bloomsburg at the 133 and 174 pound bouts. The match started at the heavyweight bout.

HWT- Spaid recorded his fourth pin of the season, getting the Huskies off to a 6-0 lead against the Rock. After a takedown mid-period, Spaid pinned the Rock's Matt Burkholder at the 2:35 mark. The win was Spaid's second dual match victory of the season.

125- Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) recorded 10 takedowns in a 22-8 major decision win over the Rock's Chris Clarke. Sees jumped out to a 10-4 lead after the first period, before scoring five more points in the second period, leading 15-5 at the start of the third. Sees scored on three more takedowns in the final period.

133- The Huskies' jumped out to a 15-0 lead with a technical fall win by Curto over the Rock's John Marsh. After the first period, Curto took a 14-2 lead, before scoring four more points in the second on a reversal and a takedown. His final takedown, at the 3:26 mark, sealed the tech fall win for the Huskies.

141- After a scoreless first period, the Huskies' Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) scored on two back points in the second en route to a 3-0 win over the Rock's Tony Monroig. In the third, Forbes chose the defensive position and earned his final point on an escape late in the period. The win put the Huskies' up, 18-0.

149- Bloomsburg's George Hickman (Wilmington, NC/Riverside) got his first career dual match win with an 8-3 decision over Slippery Rock's Jake Zeoli. After leading 2-0 after the first, Hickman recorded three takedowns in the second period for the Huskies.

157- Cory Mancuso put the Rock on the board with a 7-5 win over the Huskies' Mark Piermattei (Middleburg/Middleburg). Mancuso jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first, recording two takedowns and three backpoints. Piermattei scored on a takedown in the second and earned two penalty points in the third off of three stalling calls against Mancuso.

165- Jim Bertulis (Aston/Garnett Valley) recorded 14 points in the first period en route to a 17-5 major decision win over the Rock's Garry Price. After scoring on a takedown in the second, Bertulis earned an escape from the defensive position and scored his fourth takedown of the match to get the win for the Huskies.

174- Bryce Hasseman scored 13 points in the second period on his way to a 19-3 technical fall win over Gerald Christian. Hasseman got the tech fall at the 4:50 mark after recording eight backpoints, two escapes and a takedown in the second period.

184- Slippery Rock's Charlie Pienaar scored an early takedown and got a pin over the Huskies' Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) at the 2:35 mark. Despite the bout win, Bloomsburg led 30-9.

197- Chad Hoare (Reynoldsville/DuBois) sealed the Huskies' win with a 15-1 major decision win over Tony Morres. Hoare scored eight points in the second period on a reversal and six backpoints and also recorded a takedown in the third.
