Mike Sees Drops Pair of Matches at NCAA Wrestling Championships


OKLAHOMA CITY, OK--Bloomsburg University wrestler Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) saw his bid for All-American honors come to an end on Friday with a pair of losses at the NCAA Division I wrestling championships.

Sees, a 125-pounder, opened the day by getting pinned by Troy Nickerson of Cornell in 3:27. Nickerson got a takedown in the first period with Sees then picking up a reversal to tie the score at 2-2 at the end of the first period. Nickerson started the second period on the bottom and reversed Sees into a cradle and then picked up the fall.

Sees then dropped down into the consolation bracket and needed to win just one match to earn All-American honors. However, John Velez of Northwestern earned a first period fall in a time of 2:39 to end Sees' of becoming the Huskies' first All-American since the 1993-94 season.

Also, 141-pounder Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) saw his tournament come to an end on Friday with a loss by fall to Ron Tarquino of Pitt in the third round of consolations. Forbes had advanced to the third round of consolations with an 11-10 win over Vincent Ramirez of the University of North Carolina.

At 174-pounds, Jim Bertulis (Aston/Garnett Valley) saw his career come to a close with a loss by fall to Joseph Lowe of UNC-Greensboro in 4:04. At heavyweight, Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) also ended his season by losing a 3-2 decision to Payam Zarrinpour of Indiana.
