Mike Spaid Finishes 8th
AUBURN HILLS, MI- Bloomsburg University wrestler Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) finished eighth at the NCAA Division I wrestling championships. Spaid's finish earned him All-American honors becoming the school's first wrestling All-American since the 1994 season.
In the 285 pound seventh place match against Payam Zarrinpor of Sacred Heart the Huskies Spaid started quickly with a two-point near fall takedown. Zarrinpour, though reversed and had a two, near-fall to tie the match at 4-4. However, Zarrinpour recorded three more takedowns in the next two periods and had the advantage in riding time to get an 11-8 win.
In addition to being Bloomsburg's first All-American in 13 years, Spaid is also the first heavyweight in school history to earn All-American honors.
Bloomsburg's last All-American was Pete Rinella in 1994.
