SPAID EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS IN WRESTLING

AUBURN HILLS, MI- Bloomsburg University wrestler Mike Spaid earned All-American honors on Friday at the NCAA Division I wrestling championships becoming the school's first wrestling All-American since the 1994 season.

In the 285 pound quarterfinals, Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/ Boyertown) fell to number one ranked Cole Konrad of Minnesota in a 16-4 major decision. The loss snapped Spaid's 21-match win streak. Spaid then faced Joe Fendone from rival Edinboro in the fifth-round consolation match. Spaid won 6-4 on a takedown in overtime. In consolation round-six, Spaid lost by Default to Dustin Fox of Northwestern. Despite the loss, Spaid is guaranteed at least eighth place at the championships. His status for the seventh place match on Saturday is undetermined.

Bloomsburg's last All-American was Pete Rinella in 1994.

At 125 pounds, Mike Sees (Northumberland/ Shikellamy) defeated Chad Sportelli of Kent State in a 7-3 decision in his third-round consolation match. In his next match Sees was eliminated by Chatanooga's Javier Maldonado in a 4-3 decision.

At 133 pounds, Ricky Donald (Millville/ Millville) fell in a third-round consolation match to Evan Sola of North Carolina. At 141 pounds, Darren Kern (Pennsburg/ Upper Perkiomen) lost a 13-0 major decision in his third round consolation match. Both were eliminated from the competition.

Matt Moley (Phoenixville/ Spring-Ford) (149 pounds) won his third-round consolation match, defeating David Jaurequi of West Virginia in a 3-2 decision, before losing his next match in overtime by a score of 3-1 to Chatanooga's Aaron Martin. The loss eliminated Moley from the tournament.
