Huskies to Host Pitt in Wrestling
BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team will host Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) rival Pittsburgh on Thursday night starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
The match will be aired via the net as well through Takedown Radio. Listen at www.takedownradio.com.
The Huskies are coming of consecutive 12-9 seasons and feature a lineup that is led by two seniors, Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) and Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown). Sees, a 125-pounder, won 31 matches a year ago and narrowly missed earning All-American honors at the NCAA Division I national championships. He is ranked 13th in his weight class according to Intermat.
Spaid, a heavyweight, became the Huskies first All-American in 13 years last season and posted a record of 35-8 for the season. He is ranked sixth in his weight class this season and most recently finished third at the Oklahoma Gold Tournament last weekend.
In addition, Matt Moley (Oaks/Spring Ford) is ranked 15th at 149 pounds, although he will wrestle at 157 against the Panthers.
The Panthers, 1-0 on the year after a 24-9 win over Lehigh, are led by the nation's top 174-pounder Keith Gavin. The senior finished second last year at the NCAA championships and is 1-0 on the year.
Also for Pitt, Drew Headlee at 141-pounds, is ranked 11th, while Matt Kocher is fourth at 157-pounds and will square off with Moley at that weight. The only other ranked wrestler for the Panthers is David Sullivan at 184 pounds.
A year ago, the Panthers knocked off the Huskies 30-14 in Pittsburgh. However, the Huskies still lead the all-time series by a mark of 17-14.
