Huskies Second at PSAC Wrestling Championships
BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team finished second at the 2007-08 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships held at Clarion on Saturday with 118.5 points. Edinboro won the team title with 152.5 points.
For the Huskies, Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) at 125 pounds and heavyweight Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) became three-time PSAC champions with victories in their respective weight classes.
Also, placing second for the Huskies were Jason Guffey (Muncy/Warrior Run) at 133 pounds; Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) at 157 pounds and Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) at 184 pounds.
Finishing in fourth place were Dennis Bermudez (Suagerties, NY/Saugerties) at 149 pounds; Ricky Schmelyun (New Oxford/Bermudian Springs) at 165 pounds and Nate Graham (Selkirk, NY/Ravena) at 174 pounds.
Taking fifth was George Hickman (Castle Hayne, NY/Riverside) at 141 pounds, while Nick Sacco (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) at 197 pounds was sixth.
For Sees, the road to his third PSAC title featured a win by technical fall over John Andel of Millersville in the quarterfinals; a major decision over John Trumbetti of Lock Haven; and an 8-5 win over Eric Morrill of Edinboro in the title match.
Spaid picked up his third PSAC title with a win by fall over Roman Husam of Clarion in the quarterfinals; a win by fall over Dan Craig of Lock Haven in the semi-finals; and a 9-2 win over Christopher Birchler of East Stroudsburg in the championship match.
The Huskies wrestle at the Buffalo University Duals on Saturday at 1 p.m.
