Bloomsburg Rolls Past Rider in Wrestling
BOYERTOWN-- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team posted a 26-10 win over Rider University in a match at held at Boyertown High School on Tuesday.
The Huskies started quickly in the match with 12th-ranked Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) winning by major decision, 20-7, followed by a pin from Jason Guffey (Muncy/Warrior Run) at 134 in 4:34. Darren Kern (Pennsburg/Upper Perkiomen) made it three straight wins for Bloomsburg with a hard-fought 2-0 win at 141 pounds.
Rider won its first match of the night at 149 with All-American Don Fisch winning 10-2 over Dennis Bermudez (Suagerties, NY/Suagerties). Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) won at 157 pounds for the Huskies by a 6-0 score with Rider posting a win at 165 pounds.
At 174 pounds, Brian Shaw won by major decision, 14-4, over Dan Silberman, while Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) won by a 6-1 margin at 184 pounds. After dropping the 197 pound match, the Huskies heavyweight All-American Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) took to the mat.
Spaid, a graduate of Boyertown High School, did not disappoint the local crowd earning a 7-1 victory, his 28th win of the season.
"This was a good win for us," said coach John Stutzman. "We are young and needed to get this win over a good Rider team."
Bloomsburg, now 2-4-1, will host Binghamton University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
