Huskies Finish Seventh with Sees and Spaid Reaching Milestones

GREENSBORO, NC-- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team finished seventh at the Southern Scuffle wrestling tournament in Greensboro, NC with a total of 86 points. The University of Minnesota finished first in the 28-team field with 182 points. The day also featured two Bloomsburg wrestlers reaching career milestones.
At 125 pounds Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) lost in the first place match to top-seeded Jayson Ness of Minnesota by fall in 5:48. Sees reached the finals with a quarterfinal win over Justin Staylor of Virginia Tech by fall in 5:54 and a semi-final win over Drew Forshey of North Carolina by a 14-3 score. The win over Forshey was the 100th career victory for Sees.
Finishing fifth in the tournament was Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) at 157 pounds. Mley pinned Trevor Hall of Cal-Bakersfield in the fifth-place match in a time of 4:59.
At 197 pounds Eric Shaw (Holidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) lost in the quarterfinals to drop into the consolation bracket where he lost his first bout and was eliminated.
At 285 pounds, Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) finished third in his weight class. Spaid lost in the quarterfinals by a 3-2 score to Scott Steele of Navy; then came back through the consolation bracket. He first picked up a 6-3 win over Ryan Bergman of Cal-Bakersfield. The win was the 100th of his career. He then beat Ryan Hsu of UNC-Greensboro, 2-1, followed by a 6-0 win over Joey Fendone of Edinboro in the consolation semi-finals. In the consolation title match, Spaid pinned Zach Hammond of Cornell in 1:39 to take home third place.
For Sees and Spaid, they become the 11th and 12th wrestlers in school history to reach 100 career wins. Don Resse and Dave Morgan are the all-time win leaders at Bloomsburg with 127 victories each.
