Bloomsburg University Falls to Central Michigan in Wrestling


BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team lost to sixth-ranked Central Michigan 24-8 on Saturday. The match was close throughout with Central Michigan winning five matches by three points or less.

The Chippewas jumped out in front by a 6-0 score after two matches before the Huskies came back to take an 8-6 lead after a technical fall from Matt Moley at 157 pounds and a win by decision from Ricky Schmelyun. Central Michigan then won the final six bouts to post the 24-8 win.

Central Michigan improves to 10-1 overall, while the Huskies fall to 5-5. Bloomsburg will host West Virginia on Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Match-By-Match Summary

141-Eric Kruger got a first period takedown to lead 2-0. In the second period there was no scoring. Ricky Donald escaped to make it 2-1 with 40seconds to go. Kruger then scored a takedown in the final 20 seconds to win 4-1.

149- Steve Brown picked up an early takedown and led two nothing in the first period. In the second Brown picked up an escape point to lead 3-0. In the third Hickman scored an escape point, but Brown hung on for a 3-1 win.

157- Moley started the first period with a takedown, then had three, three-point near falls to lead 11-0 after one period. In the second there was no scoring. In the third Moley got another takedown and two near fall points to post a win by technical fall over Grayson.

165-There was no score in the first or second period, but Ricky Schmelyun did have two minutes of riding time. In the third Schmelyun picked up two points on a takedown to win the match by 3-1 against Trevor Stewart.

174-CMU's Mike Miller picked up two points in the first on a takedown. BU's Nate Graham picked up one escape point in the second, Miller also got one escape point before the end of the second period to lead 4-1. In the third period Miller got another escape, a takedown and posted an 8-2 win with riding time.

184- BU's Brian Shaw got a takedown in the first period against Vince DiDona to lead 2-1 after three minutes. In the second, Didona started with an escape, got a takedown with Shaw following with an escape to give DiDona a 4-3 lead after two period. In the period third Shaw got an escape point to tie the match. DiDona soon followed with a takedown. Near the end of the matrch Shaw escapes and picks up a point, but lost by a 6-5 score.

197- There was so score in the first period. Simaz got an escape to lead 1-0 after one period.. In the third,Hasseman escaped to start the frame only to have Simaz get two points for a takedown and three near fall points to lead 6-1. With riding time, Simaz posted a 7-1 win.

285-The heavy weight match started off with Tice getting a takedown. The second period Walsh got an escape point for a 2-1 lead for Tice. The third period Tice picked up another escape point and won the match 4-1.

125-In the first period, Moser got a takedown followed by Sentes picking up an escape. The second period started out with Sentes escaping and then later getting a takedown for a 4-2 lead. There was no scoring in the third and with riding time Sentes won 5-2.

133- In the first Beebe had a takedown for a 2-0 lead. In the second period Beebe was the only one to score on an escape for 3-0 lead. In the third Beede got another escape point and with riding time made the final score 5-0.
