BU Hosting Nationally Ranked Central Michigan on Saturday

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team will host sixth-ranked Central Michigan on Saturday at the Nelson Field House starting at 2 p.m.

The Huskies, 5-4, are coming off a 33-3 win over Binghamton last Sunday. In the match with the Bearcats, the Huskies dropped the first match of the night, then went on to win nine straight matches to get the easy win. Bloomsburg got a pin from George Hickman at 149 pounds and major decisions from Jason Guffey at 133 pounds, Ricky Donald at 141 and Ricky Schmelyun at 165.

For the season, Schmelyun leads the team in win with 24 and in falls with 10, while Matt Moley is second at 22-4 with Guffey third at 21-11. Moley has 11 of his 22 wins by either fall, technical fall or major decision. For Guffey his 21 wins equal his career best set last season.

Moley is ranked 10th in the country at 157 pounds, while Ian Moser at 125 pounds is 27th and Schmelyun 21st.

Central Michigan comes into the match with a record of 9-1 after winning the Virginia Duals last weekend. The Chippewas, now sixth in the latest USA Today/NWCA/Intermat poll, won the title with wins over Liberty (27-15), 23rd-ranked Old Dominion (24-12), 13th-ranked Oklahoma State (17-14) and 8th-ranked Lehigh (21-12).

Central Michigan has now won eight straight dual matches and 17 of its last 18 dating back to last year. The only for the team this year came to top-ranked Iowa, 27-6.

Scott Sentes, at 125 poounds, went 4-0 at the tournament and is now ranked seventh in the country in his weight class. He is one of nine Chippewas that are ranked nationally.

For the year, Trevor Stewart at 165 pounds leads the team with a mark of 16-4, while Sentes is second with a record of 15-3. Stewart leads the team in falls with three, while Sentes and 184-pounder Vince DiDona have two each.

The Huskies and Chippewas have faced two common opponents this year. Both teams lost to Iowa, while the Huskies lost to Old Dominion, a team that CMU beat last week.

Bloomsburg will be home again next Friday hosting West Virginia, then go on the road for two matches at Clarion and Cleveland State in the week of January.
