Moley Gets Pin in 44 Seconds; Huskies Down Rutgers 21-13

BLOOMSBURG--Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring Ford) scored a win by fall in the first period that powered the Huskies to a 21-13 win over Rutgers University on Friday night.

Moley was able to pin his opponent just 44 seconds into the match, shifting the momentum of a close match to the Huskies side and give them a lead it would never give up.

Bloomsburg also picked up wins from Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) at 197, Brian Shaw (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) at 184, Nate Graham (Selkirk, NY/Ravena) at 174, George Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/Riverside) at 149, and Jason Guffey (Muncy/Warrior Run) at 133.

Before the match the Huskies honored the four senior members of its team, Hickman, Hasseman, Eric Shaw and Darren Kern,

Bloomsburg improves to 9-7, 3-3 EWL, will wrestle in the EWL Championships March 7th at Lock Haven.

Match By Match Summary

125: BU's Ian Moser and Rutgers' Matt Fusco came out very active in the first and each wrestler was able to score two takedowns in the period. The match was tied 6-6 after one. Fusco had a takedown and an escape in the second and took a 9-6 lead into the third period. Moser got an escape in the third but Fusco was able to hold on for the 10-7 victory.

133: Bloomsburg's Jason Guffey came out strong with a takedown, an escape, and a two-point near fall to lead 5-2 after one period. Guffey had a takedown and an escape in the second period and led 8-3 after two. Guffey had another takedown in the third and won the match 11-5.

141: BU's Ricky Donald had a takedown in the first, but Rutgers' Trevor Melde had a reversal to square the match at 2-2 after one. Melde had a reversal in the second and led 4-3 after two periods. The third period was scoreless and Melde was able to hold on for a 4-3 victory for the Scarlet Knights.

149: BU's George Hickman had a takedown in the first and led 2-1 after one period. Hickman had a takedown and an escape in the second and led 5-1 after two. He had another takedown in the third and won the match 9-3.

157: Bloomsburg's Moley came out strong with a takedown just seconds into the first period, and won the match by fall in 44 seconds.

165: There was no scoring in the first or second period between BU's Ricky Schmelyun and Matt Pletcher of Rutgers. Pletcher was able to earn one point of riding time in the third and won the match 1-0.

174: There was no scoring in the first period between Bloomsburg's Nate Graham and Rutgers' Mike Whalen. Graham had a two-point near fall in the second and led 2-0 after two. There was no scoring in the third period and Graham held on for a 2-0 victory for the Huskies.

184: BU's Brian Shaw had two takedowns in the first and led 4-2 after one period. Shaw had an escape in the second and took a 5-2 lead into the third period. Rutgers' McPaul Ogbonna had an escape in the third but Shaw scored another takedown and won the match 8-3.

197: Bloomsburg's Jesse Hasseman cam out with an early takedown in the first period and led 2-0 after one. There was no scoring in the second period. Rutgers' Chris Orzechowski had a takedown in the third, but Hasseman was able to get an escape and with riding time won the match 4-2.

285: BU's Zac Walsh had an early takedown and led 2-1 after one period. Rutgers' D.J. Russo had a reversal and two, three-point near falls in the second and led 9-2 after two. Russo had two more takedowns in the third and won the match 14-4.
