Bloomsburg Wins Two at BU Duals

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team picked up wins over East Stroudsburg and Sacred Heart and lost a tough match to Buffalo on Saturday at the Bloomsburg Duals.

The Huskies beat the Warriors of East Stroudsburg, 33-12, Sacred Heart 41-3, before losing to Buffalo 18-16. All-American Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) had a big day with three wins, two of them by fall, while the third win was by technical fall. Rick Schmelyun (New Oxford/Bermudian Springs) at 165 pounds had the day's quickest pin with a 49 second victory over Buffalo's Ron Majerus.

Bloomsburg, 3-4,will be idle till Dec. 29-30 when the Huskies go to Greensboro, NC to for the Southern Scuffle.

125-Ian Moser won by forfeit

133-There was no scoring in the first period. Guffey picked up one point for stalling by Dunn in the second period. In the third period Guffey escaped to start the period then added a takedown for a 4-0 lead. With riding time Guffey won 5-0.

141-Rick Donald picked up a takedown and three near fall points for a 5-0 lead. Two more three-point near falls made it 11-0 after one period. In the second period Dunn picked up a late takedown to make it an 11-2 score. Donald escaped to start the third period with the final score being 12-2.

149-There was no scoring in the first period. In the second period Hickman took a 3-0 lead with a three-point near fall. No scoring in the third period made the final 3-0.

157-Moley had a takedown in the opening 20 seconds. Moley had a three-point near fall for a 5-0 lead. Two more near fall points made it 7-0 after one period. Moley pinned Alpaugh in 4:00.

165-Schmelyun opened with an early takedown for a 2-0 lead. Schmelyun pinned in 2:39.

174-Graham had a takedown and three-point near fall for a 5-0 lead after one period. A takedown by Graham made it a 7-0 lead early in the second period. Graham led 9-2 going into the third period and with a takedown and riding time it was 12-2 win for Graham.

184-Jesse Hasseman won by forfeit.

197-A takedown and two escapes gave Shaw a 4-2 lead going into the third period. An escape by Eichenlaub to start the third period made it 4-3.

285-There was no scoring in the first period. Beiermeister escaped to start the second period for the only scoring of the frame. BU's Ryan Sutton escaped to start the period and tie the score at 1-1. Beiermester picked up a point on stalling for Sutton and won 2-1.

125- Moser picked up six points in the last 30 seconds of the first period to lead 8-3. He went on to post a 16-4 win.

133-Guffey won by forfeit.

141-Donald scored the only points in the first period with a takedown. Gaining back points in the last few moments Donald wins by a score of 10-2 against Menafra.

149-The first period saw Heckman leading Hickman 1-0. BU's Hickman though rallied and posted a 7-3 win.

157-Moley was leading by a score of 9-1 in the second when he pinned Jesse Dunn.

165-Rickey Schmelyun won by forfeit.

174-Graham picked up four takedowns to get an 8-3 lead over Nick Tetro in the first period. In the second Graham got two more take downs to take a 12-4 lead. Graham won by 16-4 in the third. 184- Eddy Ebewo got a takedown and two, three-point near falls for an 8-0 lead. Graham rallied with three third period takedowns, but Ebewo hung on for a 13-8 win.

197- Sutton went up against Shane Mallory, Mallory getting an escape and Sutton a takedown. Mallory takes Sutton to his back for three points in the second. Mallory posted a 7-3 win.

285.- Chris Birchler was leading 2-0 in the first period when he pinned Eric Shaw in 1:51.

125-Moser dominated the first period getting two takedowns and leading 6-2 at the end of the first period. At the start of the third Bishop picked up one escape point but Moser won 8-3 with riding time. At the end of the bout Bloomsburg was penalized one team point.

133-The match had no score in the first period, and the second started with a caution on Buffalo with a false start. In the second Smith picked up one point with an escape. Guffey evened up the score making it one-one with an escape point. Going toovertime Smith won with a takedown 20 seconds in.

141-There was no score between Donald and Stella in the first two periods. In the third Donald started down and got reversal points for the only points of the match and won 2-0.

149- Desi Green had two takedowns to lead 4-2 in the first period. In the second Green got another take down and Hickman an escape to give Green a 7-3 lead after two period.. Green started the third with another takedown, and ended up winning 9-5.

157-Moley led 6-0 at the end of one period. Cannon got one escape point in the second, then Moley picked two takedowns and one reversal to lead 12-1 in the second. Moley continued to dominate in the third and posted an 18-1 win by technical fall.

165- Schmelyun dominated from the start getting a three point near fall and a take down, before pinning Majerus in 49 seonds.

174-There was no score in the first period between Graham and Rock. Graham scored first in the second period on an escape, while Rock evened it up when he scored an escape in the third and took the lead when he got a reversal. Graham scored another escape point at the end before losing to Rock 3-2.

184-There was no scoring in the first period . Moran got an escape point in the top of the second, and reversal points, Hasseman than escaped. With a final score of 3-2 in favor of Moran.

197-Eric Shaw and Jimmy Hamel started off the first with two take downs for Hamel and two escapes for Shaw. In the second Shaw picked up another escape and Hamel another take down and an escape and went on to win 11-5.

285- Brett Correll picked up atakedown in the first period against Ryan Sutton. In the second Correll got an escape which was the only pointed scored that period and went on to win 6-1. The win also gave the Bulls a come-from-behind win over Bloomsburg.
