Bloomsburg Wrestling Competes at Michigan State Open


BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team participated in the Michigan State Open on Sunday in East Lansing, Mich.

The top finishers on the day for the Huskies were Ian Moser (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney), who went 3-1 at 125-pounds and Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford), who went 4-1at 157-pounds. Both wrestlers earned third place finishes in the tournament.

In the 125-pound quarterfinal match, Moser lost a 12-3major decision to Paul Donahoe of Edinboro. Donahoe would go on to take first place in the 125-pound weight class. In Moser's previous matches he earned a 15-7 major decision, 3-2 decision, and a 10-5 decision. In the 157-pound quarterfinal match, Moley lost a 3-2 double-overtime decision to Kurt Kinser of Indiana University. Kinser would go on to take first place in the 157-pound weight class. In Moley's previous two matches he earned a pin and a 19-3 major decision.

Other top finishers for the Huskies included Ryan Sutton (Bloomsburg/Meramac CC), who went 3-2 at 197-pounds and Jason Guffey (Muncy/Warrior Run), who finished 4-2 in the 133-pound weight class. Sutton earned a fourth place finish, while Guffey finished fifth. In the 197-pound semi-final match, Sutton was pinned by John Weakley of Ohio State. Weakley went on to take third place in the 197-pound weight class. In Sutton's previous three matches he earned two pins and a 3-2 decision. In the 133-pound quarterfinal match, Guffey lost a 7-0 decision to Jimmy Conroy of the University of Pennsylvania. In Guffey's previous matches he earned a pin, 5-3 decision, 3-2 decision, and a 4-3 decision.

The Huskies return to action on November 19th when they travel to Pittsburgh for a EWL match starting at 7:30 p.m.
