Bloomsburg Falls to Pitt in Wrestling

PITTSBURGH-- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team lost to the University of Pittsburgh, 27-7, in its first dual meet of the year.

The Huskies' Ian Moser dropped a close 9-8 decision at 125 pounds to open the match. Moser led 8-6 going into the third period, but lost on riding time with the score tied at 8-8 at the end of the match. Later with the Panthers in front 12-0, the Huskies picked up their first win of the match when Matt Moley, ranked 11th in the country, won 12-2 at 157 pounds. Moley led by just a score of 5-2 going into the final period, but got a take down and near-fall to pull away.

Bloomsburg made it 12-7 when Ricky Schmelyun won by a score of 8-2 at 165 pounds. Schmelyun also finished the third period with a take down and near-fall to earn the win.

That would be, though, the final win for the Huskies on the night. Bloomsburg dropped two close bouts at 174 and 184, then lost by fall at 197 and dropped a decision at heavyweight.

The Huskies, 0-1, 0-1 in the Eastern Wrestling League, take part in the Body Bar Open in Ithaca, NY this Saturday.
