BLOOMSBURG--Two Bloomsburg University wrestlers, Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) and Rick Schmelyun (New Oxford/Bermudian Springs), are ranked nationally in the Intermat NCAA Division I preseason rankings for the 2009-10 season.

Moley, a senior who wrestles at 157 pounds, is ranked second in the country at his weight by Intermat. He is a two-time All-American earning a sixth place finish last year as a junior after an eighth place finish as a sophomore. Moley was selected as one of the participants in the NWCA All-Star classic to be held in November in Fullerton, California.

A year ago, Moley, who was ranked in the top 10 of his weight class all season long, led the Huskies with a record of 36-8, including a dual meet record of 12-1. Of his 36 wins, 21 (more than 58 percent) came by way of fall, technical fall or major decision. At the Eastern Wrestling League championships Moley captured his first EWL title with a win over his long-time rival from Edinboro who came into the event ranked number one in the country and undefeated. Moley earned an 8-5 win and was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the event. He was also named the EWL Wrestler of the Week on Nov 30th. He will enter his senior year just two wins shy of 100 and just 28 wins shy of setting a new school record for career victories.

Schmelyun is ranked 19th in the preseason poll by Intermat. Schmelyun, who wrestles at 165-pounds, posted a mark of 32-15 as junior and qualified for the NCAA championships for the first time in his career. He was one of the leaders in Division I lead for pins in his weight class with 15. Among his 15 pins were five in less than a minute, including one in 38 seconds. During the season Schmelyun finished fifth at the EWL championships and was second in the PSAC championships. For his career, he is 88-48.

Bloomsburg will open its 2009-10 season at the Millersville Duals on Saturday, Nov. 7.
