Huskies Fall Short Against West Virginia


MORGANTOWN, WV-The Bloomsburg University wrestling team lost to West Virginia University on Sunday night by a score of 21-18.

After falling behind 12-0 after the first three matches, the Huskies began their comeback with a 7-6 win by Josh Roosa (Mountain Top/Crestwood) in overtime. All-American Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) then scored a win at 157 pounds by fall in 6:32 to make it a 12-9 match.

Bloomsburg's Rick Schmelyun (New Oxford/Bermudian Springs) then tied the match at 12-12 with an 11-7 win before Nate Graham (Selkirk, NY/Ravena) put the Huskies on top for the first time with a 4-3 win by decision at 174 pounds for a 15-12 lead. Derek Coffey (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) continued the run of victories for the Huskies with a win a 9-3 victory giving Bloomsburg an 18-12 lead with two matches left.

At 197 pounds West Virginia pulled out a 3-1 victory to get within 18-15 before getting a win by fall at 285 to score the 21-18 victory.

Bloomsburg goes to 8-6 on the season and will host Clarion on Friday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.
