BLOOMSBURG—Four Bloomsburg University women's soccer players have been named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) first or second team. Alea Balthaser (Hamburg/Hamburg), Christine Krebs (South Hero, VT/South Burlington), Danielle Brunetti (Philadelphia/Nazareth Acad.) and Nicole Zeoli (Philadelphia/Little Flower) were all named to the team from a Huskies' squad that finished the regular season 15-2-1, 9-1 in the PSAC. After a first round bye in the playoffs, Bloomsburg was beaten by Lock Haven in the PSAC Championship game, 3-2 in four overtimes.
Balthaser, a junior forward, was named the PSAC Athlete of the Year and first team All-PSAC. This is the third straight season she has been named to the first team. Balthaser was also named the PSAC Athlete of the Year in 1998 when she pulled off the rare feat of being named both the PSAC Athlete and Rookie of the Year.
This season, Balthaser scored 11 goals and had nine assists for a total of 31 points in just 15 games played due to a season-ending injury suffered recently. Her 2.1 points per game rank her second on the team. Through three years at Bloomsburg, Balthaser has 41 goals and 28 assists for a total of 110 points. Her 28 assists tie for the school's all-time lead.
Krebs, a senior forward, was named All-PSAC for the third time in her career, the second season in a row she has been named to the first team. Through 19 games, Krebs is the Bloomsburg leader in goals and points with 18 and 41, respectively. She has also contributed with five assists on the year. Her 2.2 points per game give her the team-lead in that category as well.
On her career, Krebs has 57 goals and 18 assists for a total of 132 points. Krebs is already the Huskies' all-time leader in both goals scored and points.
For Brunetti, a junior defenseman, this is her first time on the All-PSAC team. She was named to the first team after having an excellent season for the Huskies on defense. She is a part of the tough Bloomsburg defense that has allowed only 21 goals this season through 19 games played. Her leadership abilities and toughness on the field have also been important this season for the Huskies.
Zeoli, a sophomore midfielder, was named to the All-PSAC second team. This is the first time she has garnered the honor. Zeoli played well on both offense and defense, providing a spark on both sides of the ball for the Huskies throughout the season. She assisted on one goal this season and now has one goal and two assists for a total of four points through two seasons at Bloomsburg.
For the third time in school history, the Huskies have earned a trip to the NCAA Division II championships. Bloomsburg is one of just 16 teams to earn a spot in the tournament and will face Lock Haven for the Northeast Regional Championship. The teams will square off Sunday, Nov. 12, at 12:30 p.m. at Lock Haven.
