BLOOMSBURG—Three members of the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team have been named to the Division II All-Region Team for the 2000 season in the Northeast Region. Forwards Alea Balthaser (Hamburg/Hamburg), Christine Krebs (South Hero, VT/South Burlington) and defender Danielle Brunetti (Philadelphia/Nazareth Academy) were named to the first team as selected by the 2000 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Krebs, a senior, helped the Huskies to a 16-4-1 record, 9-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), and a run at the NCAA Division II National Championship that ended in a quarterfinal loss to Franklin Pierce. She led the team in scoring with 45 points and averaged a team-high 2.14 points per game. Krebs also led the team with 20 goals and also chipped in with five assists. She ended her career with 59 goals and 18 assists for a total of 136 points. She is the all-time leader in both goals and points at Bloomsburg.
Balthaser, a junior, played in only 17 games due to an injury, but was still third on the team with 31 points. She led the team in assists with 11 and was second in points per game with an average of 1.82. Balthaser also deposited 11 goals throughout the season for the Huskies. Her 28 career assists tie her for first on the all-time list at Bloomsburg.
Brunetti, a junior, played in all 21 games for the Huskies, providing strong defense and leadership. She was part of a defense that allowed just 27 goals on the year and helped in shutting out opponents seven times throughout the year. Her hard-nosed, tireless effort on the field was a big asset for Bloomsburg as the team copied her playing style and played tough against every opponent all-year long.
