Women's Soccer Falls In NCAA Championships

GARDEN CITY, NY—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday when it lost, 2-1, to Adelphi University in an opening round NCAA championship game.

The Huskies end their season with a record of 13-6-3. Adelphi advances to face Lock Haven University this weekend in a second round game.

The Panthers scored just 44 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Luciana Pace scored from six yards out for Adelphi to put the home team in front early.

Adelphi got it second goal of the game with just 54 seconds left before halftime when Shannon McEntee came down the side and shot from the wing past Bloomsburg goalie Heather Hartman (Pleasanton, CA/Amador Valley).

Bloomsburg cut the lead in half at the 73-minute mark when senior Renee Williams (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) scored off an assist from Becky Ritter (Philipsburg/Philipsburg-Osceola). Williams took a crossing apss from Ritter and hit the corner of the net for the Huskies' goal.

The Huskies dominated play in the second half getting off 14 shots compared with just four for the Panthers.

Bloomsburg was making its fifth trip to the NCAA championships. The highest finish for the Huskies was a quarterfinal appearance in 2000.
