Three Huskies Named to All Region First Team

BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University women's soccer team had three players named to the 2002 NSCAA All-Northeast Regional first team. Heather Hartman (Pleasanton, CA/Amador Valley), Jill Docherty (Allentown/Catasaugqua), and Renee Williams (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) were all named to the team.

Hartman was stellar in goal finishing with a goals against average of 0.88, eight shutouts, a .894 save percentage, 160 saves and 13 wins. She was named the PSAC Player of the Week after recording two of them in the final week of the regular season, which helped Bloomsburg reach the playoffs, and was named first team All-PSAC. In the PSAC championship game, Hartman came up with 16 saves to lead the Huskies to the championship. She made two big saves in the penalty kick portion of the tie game and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Hartman has compiled 21 career shutouts in her two years at Bloomsburg.

Williams was the team's leading scorer, finishing the season with 13 goals, four assists for a 30 total points, including three game winning goals. A senior, Williams had four multi-goal games during the year, including three in a win over Felician College. In the PSAC playoffs, Williams came up big for the Huskies in the semi-finals scoring one goal and getting an assist on the other in the team's 2-1 win over Shippensburg. Williams also scored the game-winning goal against Edinboro early in the season. She was also named to the All-PSAC First team this past year.

Docherty was the team's top defensive player and was also named first team All-PSAC. Docherty, a freshman defender, started all but the first game of the season for the Huskies and was part of a defense that allowed just 17 goals scored during the year. She also had one assist during the season. In addition, she reads the game tremendously well and has a lot of poise and composure in directing the defense as a freshman. Docherty also has the ability to serve balls and get out of tight situations.
