Bloomsburg to Host PSAC Championship Game in Women's Soccer
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team will look to claim its third Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship when the Huskies host Millersville University this Saturday at 1p.m. Tickets for the game will be sold at the field and cost $7 for adults and $2 for students.
Bloomsburg, the number three seed, enters play with a record of 12-5-2 after upsetting Shippensburg on the road Tuesday afternoon, 2-1. This is the Huskies eighth appearance in the PSAC playoffs and seventh in the title game. This is also the third straight year that Bloomsburg will play in the championship game. The Huskies lost the last two title games, both in four overtimes, to Lock Haven. This game marks the second time in as many weeks that Bloomsburg hosts Millersville. The Huskies beat the Marauders last Saturday, 3-0. Bloomsburg previously won the PSAC title in 1996 and 1998.
The Huskies are led by senior Renee Williams (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West), who leads the team with 12 goals and four assists. She also has recorded a team-high three game-winning goals on the year. Freshman Becky Ritter (Philipsburg/Philipsburg-Osceola) has eight goals and one assist, while senior Rebecca Stametz (Shamokin/Southern Columbia) has added six goals of her own. Sophomore Amanda McLaughlin (Andover, NJ/North Warren) rounds out the Huskies' attack, adding four goals and two assists on the season.
In goal for Bloomsburg is sophomore Heather Hartman (Pleasanton, CA/Amador Valley), who has a 0.83 goals against average and eight shutouts on the year. She has made 133 saves and allowed just 16 goals in 1,726 minutes over the course of 19 games.
Millersville, the number four seed, comes into the game with a record of 12-4-3 after knocking off the top-seeded Lock Haven team on the road Tuesday afternoon, 2-1. This is the Marauders first appearance in the PSAC playoffs.
Leading Millersville is senior Stacy Brubaker, who has 12 goals and three assists. Senior Jen Yoder, 10 goals and four assists, and freshman Emily Pumphrey, three goals and four assists, round out the main scoring for Millersville.
The trademark of the Marauders this season has been its stingy defense. The team has surrendered just 13 goals in 18 games on the year. Junior goalkeeper Liz Agro has been the main reason for this, compiling a 0.67 goals against average and nine shutouts on the year. She has made 102 saves, while allowing just 12 goals in 1,603 minutes of action in net.
