WEST CHESTER —Lauren Hess (East Greenville/Upper Perkiomen) scored the game's only goal with 15:38 to play in the first half of action to lift the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over West Chester in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs on Tuesday.

The Huskies, the number three seed from the East, will now face Kutztown, the top seed from the East, on Friday at 1 p.m. at Kutztown in a semi-final matchup.

Hess scored her goal while dribbling across the top of the 18-yard line. She then moved in and drilled a shot past West Chester goalie Heather Rinker to the left side of the netting. The goal would turn out to be the game-winner.

“West Chester is a good team, but we played very well defensively,” said Bloomsburg coach Sandy Dickson. “It was a physical game, something we expected. But the team (Bloomsburg) played hard and smart and managed the clock well. It was a good win for us.”

Bloomsburg dominated the action taking 10 shots to the just three for the Golden Rams and had six corners to just a pair for West Chester. Bloomsburg goalie Robin Gerber (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) also played well with two saves.

The Huskies improve to 9-8-2 on the year, while West Chester ends its season at 11-7-2.
