Bloomsburg Women's Soccer Wins Opener

Box Score

BLOOMSBURG -- The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team outpaced California (Pa.) University 6-0 Saturday evening.

The Huskies wasted little time getting on the scoreboard when Lauren Hess (East Greenville/Upper Perkiomen) scored unassisted just 1:13 into the contest. After nearly hour delay due to lightning and rain, play resumed with Bloomsburg controlling the action.

The Huskies had several shots on goal following the delay, but were denied until Jen McLean (Birdsboro/Birdsboro) hit the back of the net at the 28:52 mark to give Bloomsburg a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Bloomsburg continued to control play offensively with Kelly Modes (Langhorne/Neshaminy) and Ashley Brucker (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) scoring less than two minutes apart with just under 40 minutes to play putting the Huskies in control 4-0.

Following a second lightning delay, the Huskies added a goal by Suzie Wade (Watsontown/Warriors Run) at 55:58. Katie Staubs (Mont Alto/Waynesboro) added one more at the 69 minute mark for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg resumes action Wednesday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 5 p.m. start.
