BU Women Swimmers Win at Port Orange Invitational; Men Take Third

PORT ORANGE, FL —Ashley Jones took first in three events to lead the Bloomsburg University women's swim team to a win at the Port Orange Invitational in Port Orange, FL Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies finished with 788 points in the four-team event. Rollins College was second with 546 points.

The Bloomsburg men finished third of four teams with 369 points, while Rollins College won the event with 496 points.

Jones finished first in three events for coach Dave Rider. She was first in the 100 free in 56.51; the 200 free in 1:59.74 and the 500 free in 5:25.59. In the 500 free, Jones won by nearly five seconds.

Along with Jones, Becky Witwer took first in two events; the 100 breast in 1:11.46 and the 200 breast in 2:35.22. Erin Carey had one first place finish in the 200 IM in 2:18.64. Jodi Kaiser also had a first place finish in the 1000 free in a time of 11:05.72.

Freshman Kari Pokrzywa also had a good meet with three second-place finishes. She was second in the 100-back stroke in 1:03.42; the 200 back in 2:18.20 and the 200-butterfly in 2:21.12.

For the Bloomsburg men, Tom DiSalvatore and Jason Davis were both two-time winners and had one second place finish each. DiSalvatore was first in the 200-butterfly in 2:07.99 and the 200 IM in 2:04.71. He was also second in the 200 free in 1:52.59.

Davis was first in the 100-breast in 1:01.61 and the 200-breast in 2:19.47. He was second in the 200 IM in 2:04.72. In addition, Andy Wise took first in the 100 free in 51.51

The invitational wrapped up a week of training in Florida for both the men's and women's teams.
