Bloomsburg Swimmers Fall to West Chester

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swimming teams were defeated by West Chester, Saturday afternoon. The women lost 132.5-109.5, while the men were topped 133-124.

Ashley Jones (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) led the women with three first place finishes. Jones took the 50-free in 25.25, the 200 IM in 2:16.22, and joined forces with Emily Varley (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury), Lindsay Wallace (Frenchville/Clearfield) and Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson) to capture the 200-free relay in a time of 1:42.98. Varley also came in second in the 100-free in 56.44, while Carey had two second place finishes in the 200-breast in 2:30.76 and the 100-breast in 1:11.14.

Becky Witwer (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Twp) also swam well for the Huskies, finishing first in the 200-breast in 2:30.76, taking second place in the 200 IM in 2:19.08 and joining Kari Pokrzwya (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury), Janelle Hose (Sacramento, CA/C.K. McClatchy) and Wallace to take second in the 200-medley relay in 1:55.24. Pokrzwya also took second in the 100-breast in 1:02.40, while freshman Ashley Koch (West Chester/West Chester East) was first in the 200-back in 2:18.67.

For the men, Tom DiSalvatore (Thornton/West Chester East) and Steve Fisher (Tunkhannock/ Tunkhannock) led the Huskies with two first place finishes apiece. DiSalvatore was first in the 200-breast in 2:23.87 and Fisher first in the 100-fly in 56.03, while they teamed up with Scott Davis (Jefferson, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) and Brandon Hilt (Mount Joy/Hempfield) to win the 200-free relay in 1:29.43. Stephen Post (Scranton/ Scranton) also swam well for the Huskies, taking first in the 500-free in 5:35.26 and second in the 200-free in 1:49.91, while Jay Graham (Walford, MD/Westlake) won the 200-IM in 2:22.19.

Brian Kamenetz (Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton), Andy Wise (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), Ryan Farrell (Mountain Top/Bishop Hoban), and Matt Fender (Swarthmore/Central O'Hara) each had a second place victory for the Huskies in the meet. Kamenetz swam the 200-back in 2:04.24, Wise finished the 200-breast in 2:26.77, Farrell swam the 500-free in 5:40.50, and Fender ended the 100-fly with a time of 56.42.

Bloomsburg hosts the College of New Jersey Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a men's and women's meet.
