Bloomsburg Women's Swimming Defeats Mansfield

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team defeated Mansfield University 153-74 in the opening meet of the swimming season. The Huskies won 10 out of 14 events and finished second in three other events. Impressively, the Huskies finished first and second in seven races.

Ashley Jones (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) won two events for the Huskies, the 50-yard freestyle in 25.39 and the 100-yard freestyle in 55.36. Lindsay Wallace (Frenchville/Clearfield) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:36.38 and placed second in two other events. Eileen Garvey (Scranton/Scranton) won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.13 and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle. Jennifer Shank (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:20.65 and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly. Kari Pokrzywa (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.36 and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke. Other Bloomsburg winners include Holly Hicks (Medford, NJ/Holy Cross), who won the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:29.79, Allie Groesbeck (Yardley/Pennsbury), who won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.26 and Becky Witwer (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Twp.) who won the 1:12.06. The Huskies also won one out of two relays.

The Huskies next meet is at the Shippensburg relays Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.
