Huskies Sweep Indiana (PA) in Swimming

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams defeated Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-rival Indiana (PA) on Saturday. The women defeated the Indians, 110-95, while the men won 107-98.
Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) led the Huskies with two wins in the meet. She won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:57.62 and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:23.50.
Lindsay Wallace (Frenchville/Clearfield) and Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson) also turned in first-place performances. Wallace took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.00, while Carey won the 200-yard IM in 2:18.45. Finishing second and third behind Carey in the 200-yard IM were Sara Lengler (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) and Becky Witwer (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Township) with times of 2:18.51 and 2:19.53, respectively.
Kari Pokrzwya (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) posted a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.59, while Ashley Koch (West Chester/West Chester East) was third in 2:16.67.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Becky Kadingo (Orwigsburg/Nativity B.V.M.) was second in 2:03.78, while Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.81.
In the final event for the women, Dean, Yelinek, Kadingo and Wallace teamed up and won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.62.
Leading the way for the men was Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northampton), who finished first in two events. He won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.52, and was also first in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.67.
Ryan Farrell (Mountaintop/Bishop Hoban) also posted a first-place finish for the Huskies in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing with a time of 2:20.21.
Stephen Post (Scranton/Scranton) recorded a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.82, while Eric Weathers (Eagleville/Methacton) was third in 1:52.58. Post also picked up a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.37.
Tom DiSalvatore (Thorton/West Chester East) picked up two second-place finishes for the Huskies. In the 200-yard butterfly he was second in 2:07.80, while in the 200-yard IM finished with a time of 2:04.00.
Brandon Hilt (Mt. Joy/Hempfield) was second in the 200-yard backstroke for Bloomsburg with a time of 2:04.02.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Jason Davis (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), Andrew Wise (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), Hilt and DiSalvatore finished first with a time of 3:50.20. The team of Weathers, Post, Backenstoe and Hilt also recorded a first-place finish for the Huskies in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:16.66.
With the win over Indiana (PA), the women finish the regular season with a record of 7-1, while the men finish the year at 2-4. The next event for the Huskies will be the PSAC Championships at Indiana (PA), Feb. 20-22.
