BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams lost to Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday. The men lost 125-72, while the women were defeated, 120-83.

The women, 6-3 on the season, were led by Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) who picked up a victory in the 200-free in a time of 1:59.14. Smith also finished second in the 100-free in 55:54. Smith teamed with Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield), Jackie Gribbin (Richboro/Council Rock North) and Emily Varley (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) to win the 400-free relay in a time of 3:49.51. Dean finished third in the 50-free in a time of 26:36.

Kari Pokrzywa (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) finished first in the 200-back in a time of 2:14.22. Pokrzywa also teamed with Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson), Lauren Sterkenberg (Lancaster/Hempfield) and Varley to take second in the 400-medley relay in a time of 4:19.79. Sterkenberg also took second in the 200-fly with a time of 2:20.57.

In the 1000-free Kristin Harrison (Chalfont/Central Bucks West) finished second in a time of 10:48.15, while Ashley Koch (Collegeville/West Chester East) finished third with a time of 10:54.52. Sara Lengler (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) picked up two, third place finishes in the 200-breast and 200-IM in times of 2:34.78 and 2:19.71, respectively. Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) turned in a second place finish in the 500-free in a time of 5:17.93.

The men, 2-6, were led by Chris Rumfelt (Shamokin/Shamokin) who claimed first place in two events. Rumfelt won the 200-free in 1:45.22 and the 500-free with a time of 4:52.69. Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northampton) had a first place finish of his own, winning the 50-free in 22.38. Backenstoe also took second in the 100-free in a time of 50:03.

Mark Freeman (Bethlehem/Freedom) finished second in the 200-back in a time of 2:06.88 to go along with a third place finish in the 200-IM in 2:14.66. Steve Post (Scranton/Scranton) chipped in with a second place finish in the 1000-free in a time of 10:24.65. Brandon Palmer (Carlisle/Big Spring) took third in the 200-fly in a time of 2:23.24, while teammate Travis Wagner (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) finished third in the 100-free.

Bloomsburg's qualifiers will travel to West Chester to take part in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at West Chester on February 17-19.
