Dianna Smith Sets School Mark Sunday

AKRON, OH--Bloomsburg University women's swimmer Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) took fifth place in the 100-free and set a new school record in the process at the Akron Invitational on Sunday to highlight the day's action for the Huskies.

Smith, the defending PSAC champion in the 200-free, swam the 100-free in 52.77 to break her old record of 52.90 set last season. Smith also broke her school record in the 50-free with a time of 24.44, breaking her old record of 24.59 set last season. On Saturday, Smith also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200-free when she took fifth in a time of 1:53.90.

Also on Sunday for Bloomsburg, Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) was eighth in the 1650 free with a time of 17:52.37. In the 200-backstroke, Laura Jeffers (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley)was 13th in 2:11.23. In relay action, the Huskies were fourth in the 400-free relay in a time of 3:33.74 with Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove), Jackie Gribbin (Richboro/Council Rock North), Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield) and Smith swimming for the Huskies.

On the men's side, Joe Bentz (York/Suburban York), a freshman, took ninth in 17:23.46, while another freshman, Adam Rubert (Towanda/Athens) was 13th in 18:52.15 in the same event.

As a team, the women finished with 416 points, while the men finished with 377 at the predominantly Division I meet.
