Bloomsburg Splits with Ithaca in Swimming

ITHACA, NY--The Bloomsburg University women's swim team defeated Ithaca College on Saturday by a score of 109-91, while the men's team lost to the Bombers by a score of 139-66.

In the women's meet, Diana Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) took home two firsts, while Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland), Alison Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) and Sara Lengler (Harrisburg/C.D. East) each added one win each to lead Bloomsburg to the win.

Smith was first in the 200-free in 1:58.42 and also swam to a first place finish in the 100-free in 54.67, winning by over two seconds.

Yelinek won by over four seconds in the 1000-free finishing with a time of 11:04.21, while Reed was first in the 50-free in 25.63 seconds. Lengler, who also was part of the winning 400-medley relay team, took first in the 200-backstroke in 2:15.01.

For the men, Joe Bentz (York/York Suburban) was first in the 1000-free in 10:30.28, while Mike Williams (Huntingdon Valley/Lower Moreland) took top honors in the 200-fly in 2:06.67.

Both teams are back in action next Friday at Albright College in Reading.
